사람이 볼 수 없는 꽃의 세계 벌과 나비가 보는 꽃 (2010) 자연 그대로의 모습이란 무엇일까요? 우리의 눈이 담아내는 모습일까요? 곤충의 눈으로 바라보는 자연의 모습은 어떤 모습일까요? 이런 호기심 끝에 자외선 촬영으로 신비한 자연의 속살을 드러내 보았습니다. 달력 내에 있는 천연색 사진은 사람이 보는 꽃이고, 흑백사진은 자외선으로 촬영한 꽃 사진 입니다. 바로 벌과 나비가 보는 꽃입니다. 벌, 나비에게 물어보지 못해 확신할 순 없지만 여러 과학자들의 연구에 따르면 꽃마다 자외선을 반사시키는 흰색과 자외선을 흡수하는 검정색으로 꽃 속에 여러 가지 무늬를 만들어 둔답니다. 꽃은 이 무늬로 곤충을 유혹하여 꿀이 많이 있는 장소를 알려 주고 그 보답으로 꽃가루 받이를 합니다. 이 때 꽃들은 자외선으로 꿀이 들어있는 장소를 더욱 뚜렷하게 볼 수 있도록 특수한 표시(꿀점)를 해 두는데, 이것이 자외선 사진에 나타난 모양이라고 생각됩니다. '사람이 볼 수 없는 꽃의 세계'는 우리나라 토종 꽃을 촬영한 최초의 자외선 꽃 사진입니다. 야생화를 즐기는 고객님께 16년째 만드는 [한국의 야생화]는 보이지 않는 꽃의 세계를 주제로 했습니다. Flowers From Bees' and Butterflies' Perspectives - the World Hidden From Humans (2010) What does nature look like? Is the nature seen through humans' eyes the only nature that exists? What is the nature seen through insects' eyes? A curiosity towards nature seen from the eyes of insects drove me to take UV photography of nature. In the figures, the color photograph is a flower seen through humans' eyes. The black and white photograph, taken using a UV filter, is the flower as likely to be seen through insects' eyes. Well, I did not have the bees and butterflies confirm what they saw. According to scientific research, however, flowers create patterns in the petals using black color, which absorbs white and UV light. Using the black patterns, the flowers tell insects the exact location of honey and thus are able to attract insects for pollination. You will see the special patterns on the petals in the UV photography. These patterns are the honey guide made visible by UV light for the insects' sake. My 16th Photography Calendar is about flowers from the insects' perspectives - invisible to humans. "The World Hidden From Humans" is the first UV photography of Korean native flowers in the form of a calendar.
