꽃가루 받이의 신비 (2009) 아름다운 꽃을 모아 세계 유명 식물원 연구사들이 이구동성으로 하는 말이 있습니다. 한국의 식물들은 첫째, 극심한 추위와 더위에 잘 적응하는 강인함과 둘째, 병충해에 아주 강하며 셋째, 한번 심어 놓으면 아주 나쁜 조건이 아닌 한 해마다 예쁜 꽃을 즐길 수 있으며 넷째, 꽃이 작아 진한 향기를 뿜어내는 꽃이 많고 다섯째, 꽃가루받이를 해주는 곤충이 다양한 것이 장점이라고 합니다. 열대지방의 꽃은 크고 색깔이 화려해서 멀리서도 잘 보이지만 우리 꽃은 작고 평범해 잘 눈에 띄지 않고 생태를 알지 못하면 찾기도 어렵습니다. 척박한 조건에서도 아름다운 꽃을 피우는 우리 꽃은 우리 민족의 삶을 보는 것 같습니다. 진한 향기로 곤충을 유혹해 꽃가루받이를 하고 강한 종자를 만들어 대를 이어갑니다. 15년 째 출간하는 ‘한국 야생화’ 꽃가루받이의 신비를 보시면서 우리 꽃의 향기를 만끽하시기 바랍니다. Pollination (2009) Korean flowers are well-known for the following characteristics: - first, their adaptability in extreme weather from cold to hot; - second, their resistance to pesticides; - third, flowers blossoming every year, assuming no dramatic change in the weather; - fourth, their ability to make strong perfume out of small flowers; and - fifth, their attraction of diverse insects for pollination. In contrast to tropical flowers that are big and colorful, which make them discernable at a distance, Korean flowers are small and hard to discern unless you know their ecology. Korean flowers that bloom on the land are reminiscent of the lives of Korean people. Korean plants carry out pollination by attracting insects using strong perfume and thereby carrying on their generations.
