Aquatic Plants (2001)

There are a hundred kinds of aquatic plants in Korea. However, indiscriminately developing rivers and building dams during the industrialization era has contaminated the water, placing many aquatic plants in extinction or near extinction.

As land plants purify the air, aquatic plants purify the water. Plants¡¯ abundance in water preserves the ecology of the water. Clean water provides fish, insects, and birds with good habitats.

Water is known to be the origin of life. The death of the water would mean the death of life on the earth. To publicize the importance of aquatic plants, the 2001 Calendar contains 30 Korean aquatic plants and endemic Korean plants.
